Fiber Movement
What can you do to support the fiber movement?
Contact your local leaders, and let them know that fiber is important to you and to the future of your local economy. Leaders should be open to discussing fiber deployment opportunities with internet service providers. If no opportunities have presented themselves, then local leaders should develop a plan to deploy a municipal fiber network. Not only will this foster new technology and business, it will create jobs and increase the appeal of living in your community.
Take our fiber survey. (coming soon)

I support Google fiber and think it would be a real boon to any city or town or village where it would be installed. so much of our society relies on immediate communication, especially in the area of health care where immediate response and treatment can often mean the difference between life, death, or life changing injuries. First responders can hook up with hospitals with video communication through Google fiber and provide more detailed immediate treatment while in route. Also there would be more avenues for better education to our young people or those older ones who are in retraining due to an ever changing economy. Grand Rapids Mich is one city that is undergoing such changes and growth and certainly could use Google Fiber.
Austin being the small city that it is of around 21,000 people would greatly benefit a fiber for all project or google town. We don’t have the competition in internet providers that a large city offers in many areas, thus making it more expensive in the rural and non metro areas. Of course dial up is always more affordable, but let’s face it who wants to go back to the days of a 24 baud rate when you can have super fast connectivity. After the last year of using Facebook as a social connection, I have learned more about what’s going on in our city just by talking with people in blogs and in chat. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone had the capability of communicating with their community via facebook, twitter or the like. Especially living in a cold climate it is less desireable to get out and about and is a the perfect pass time for those who are shut in during our long winters especially with the aging population that Austin has. Who knows the opportunities it could hold for some and it shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Thanks Austin keep on joining so we can be a Google Town/City. I know we can do it!
I am now living in a town called Villa Ridge I am not far from HWY-M and i live on a farm heading into Washington MO and the only internet that i can get is Satelite and that does not work well with a lot of things. I would use way more mbps they they sell and the amount that you can download before you go over and make your bill so high that you can not afford it i would hit really quickly and that does not work for me so hopefully this web site will help get some thing better in my area. And hope fully soon
